April 23-27

Here we are heading into our last full week of April.  Can you believe it?  We'll just keep on cruisin' in K-1!  I'm so impressed by the reading skills every student has developed due to their passion and excitement, which so much of can be related back to their parents!  Thank you for reading at home and promoting the importance of everything we do here at school.  We should all be proud!

Here's what we're covering this week.

Reading:
  • Phonograms: -un, -ut
  • High-Frequency Words: give, little
  • Writing friendly letters
  • Using story structure and details to understand and respond to stories.
  • Robust Vocabulary: lively, peek, arise, clever, boastful, quarrel
  • Reading Good Morning, Little Polar Bear by Carol Votaw and Clever Tortoise by Francesca Martin
Math:
  • Chapter 11: Addition
    • 11.1: Problem Solving Strategies: Acting Out Addition Problems
      • Objective: To use the problem solving strategy "act it out" to solve problems.
    • 11.2: Modeling Addition
      • Objective: To use concrete object to solve addition problems
    • 11.3:  Addition Patterns:
      • Objective: To model and draw addition patterns
  • Key Terms: in all, how many, add, is equal to, plus, one more
Science:
  • Continuing to observe our classroom fish (we unfortunately lost five our of fish friends are down to one strong-minded guppy!) and compare fish to mammals. 
  • Designing classroom collage containing various animals that reside in Minnesota
  • LEGO Engineering: creating LEGO hockey players that are able to shoot a LEGO puck
