Language Arts Home Practice Lesson 1.2 (Will come home on Friday, October 30th in Friday Folders. This home practice covers some of what we worked on during the week. Please practice these concepts with your child throughout the week. No need to turn back in. Thanks!)
We will continue Daily 5 centers this week which will include opportunities for students to read to self, work on writing, practice word work, listen to reading, and read to others. They will work in groups of 3-4. Centers will run Tuesday-Thursday and include:
Read to Self: students pick out a letter or sight word book to work on reading letter sounds, basic sight words, basic CVC words, and even some basic sentences. (Note: I am currently working on determining reading levels for each child and they will each begin using their own personalized book bag)
iPad Read to Self: students use Raz Kids to listen to a story, read a story, and answer comprehensive questions about the story.
Word Work: students choose specific activity to work on that focuses on sight words and uppercase/lowercase letter recognition (EX: iPad Sky Fish game, magnet letters, sight word cube role/graph, putting letters in the right order, writing sight words on a white board, etc...)
Work on Writing: students will create their own Halloween adventure mini book
Listen To Reading: students will listen to (and follow along/track with their fingers) a story and respond by discussing and illustrating the main idea of the story. Students can complete this using markers/paper or on their classroom iPad
Rhyming: Students will work together on a rhyming game (hands on or on the smart board)

- 2.6: Introduction to Repeating Patterns
- Objectives: Identify and order numbers 1 through 10; count out and make 6 through 10 with 5-groups; identify numbers 5 through 10 from the number word; graph to compare two numbers; develop spatial concepts; identify repeating patterns
- Vocabulary: repeating pattern, up, down, left, right, more, fewer
- 2.7: Make Repeating Patterns
- Objectives: make repeating patterns; write the numerals 1 through 5
- Vocabulary: pattern
- 2.8: Addition and Subtraction Stories: Playground Scenario
- Objectives: establish links between math and the real world; order numbers 1 through 10
- Vocabulary: straight lines
- 2.9: More Coin Values and Numbers 6-10
- Objectives: identify and order numbers 1-10; count out and make 6 through 10 with 5-groups; identify numbers 5 through 10 from the number word; graph to compare two numbers; write the numerals 1 through 5
- Vocabulary: before, after, equal, not equal, more, fewer
- Students will also use Dream Box for 10-20 minutes each day to help personalize their math experience.
- Students will also have an option to choose what page to work on in their math book (as long as we have already covered the concept)

Other News
Halloween Party (Friday, October 30):
- Party runs from 1:30-2:15
- Indoor parade starts at 2:15 and ends in the gym (parents are welcome to grab a seat in the gym and watch as we march through)
- Please do not send your child in their costume. We will change into them after lunch (130ish)
- No weapons or violent/bloody costumes
- You can send treats with your child if you'd like (I will send any and all treats home and let you decide what your child can or cannot eat)
- Send a paper/plastic bag to school with your child to hold their costume and any goodies/prizes from the party
Rollerskating:
- If you are able, please send in a helmet on rollerskating days. So far, the kindergarten students absolutely love rollerskating with Mr. H!
