Reading: Lesson 28
  • Phonemic Awareness: review all concepts 
  • Word Building: -ug and -up words
  • High-Frequency Words: review
  • Robust Vocabulary: dare, gleaming, splendid, cautiously, festival, disaster
  • Comprehension: distinguish between reality and fantasy, work on generating questions about a story

  • Lesson 28 Red(focuses on -up and -ug words)
  • Lesson 28 Blue(includes short sentences that focuses on sight words and -up and -ug words. It also focuses on other basic CVC words)
  • Lesson 28 Green(includes more complex sentences)

Center "I Can" Statements (What we hope students "can do" during weekly centers. We talk individually and as a group about learning missions of the centers)
  1. I can choose a book at my level and read by myself and/or to a partner for 15 minutes. We use Raz Kids and guided readers (Free Read Center, iPad Center)
  2. I can write 1 or more sentences about something I care about or observed. (writing/journal center)
    • students are observing our class fish and work together to write about their observations.
    • students are also using gathered research to help their writing/observations
  3. I can read, write, and use CVC words and recognize words I know and words I need more help with. (word work)
    • iPad apps called SkyFish and Word Wizard are also used (works on reading/building CVC words)
    • also various sight word games available, as we have introduced them all!
  4. I can create a piece of artwork using things found in nature and things that are human made. I can talk about the difference between the two (creation station)
  5. I can identify and choose how to illustrate the main idea of a story and talk about my favorite part.  (listening center/story response)
  6. I can use DreamBox (math app) to choose a math adventure that's right for me (math center)
  7. I can pick a letter and use a graphic organizer to show different things that start with that letter (handwriting center)
  8. I can choose an activity that will help me become a better learner (my choice center)

              • Skyping with kindergarteners from another Virginia, comparing our schooling experience
