Reading: Lesson 30
  • Phonemic Awareness: review all concepts 
  • Phonics: Review Short Vowels (a, e, i, o, u)
  • High-Frequency Words: review
  • Robust Vocabulary: dare, gleaming, splendid, cautiously, festival, disaster, adventure, explore, tame, amazed, completely, jolt

  • Lesson 30 Red(focuses on basic sentences that review sight words and common CVC words)
  • Lesson 30 Blue(includes sentences that review common CVC words and sight words)
  • Lesson 30 Green(includes more complex sentences)

Center "I Can" Statements (What we hope students "can do" during weekly centers. We talk individually and as a group about learning missions of the centers)
  1. I can choose a book at my level and read by myself and/or to a partner for 15 minutes. We use Raz Kids and guided readers (Free Read Center, iPad Center)
  2. I can write 1 or more sentences about something I care about or observed. (writing/journal center)
    • students are observing our class fish and work together to write about their observations.
    • students are also using gathered research to help their writing/observations
  3. I can read, write, and use CVC words and sight words. I can also recognize words I know and words I need more help with. (word work)
    • iPad apps called SkyFish and Word Wizard are also used (works on reading/building CVC words)
    • sight word games (go fish, memory, sight word zap, etc...)
    • introducing first grade sight words to those student who have mastered K ones!
  4.  I can reflect on my year and illustrate/discuss something I am very proud of (creation station)
  5. I can identify and choose how to illustrate the main idea of a story and talk about my favorite part.  (listening center/story response)
  6. I can use DreamBox (math app) to choose a math adventure that's right for me (math center)
  7. I pick a recent math topic(s) and choose an activity to help me become better at it (math review)

      • Vocabulary:one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten
      • 6.15: Counting Different Ways
        • Objectives: count forward and backward on a number line; Skip count forward and backward
        • Vocabulary: number line, skip count
    • We will also be reviewing many concepts including counting coins, telling time to the hour and half hour, measuring in inches and centimeters, adding and subtracting, and writing numbers.

      • Skyping with kindergarteners from another Virginia, comparing our schooling experience
        • Using maps to compare our locations
        • We will Skype with them every Monday
