January 6-10

Hello!

I hope everyone is staying warm and able to stay indoors for the most part!  As I write this, the thermostat reads -22.  Wow!  By the weekend, it looks like it'll be close to 30 degrees-heat wave! :)

Here's a breakdown of what we'll be covering during the remainder of the week.

Reading: Lesson 12
  • Phonemic Awareness: middle sounds in words
  • High-Frequency Word: review, review, review
  • Use graphic organizers
  • Review beginning, middle, and end of stories
  • Build -it and -ip words
  • Robust Vocabulary: squabble, anxious, uproar, mischief, idle, productive, moans, glum, tend, scrumptious, feast, soggy, huddle
  • Poems: read and write them together
  • Working on word choice
  • Centers on Tuesday and Wednesday
Reading Homework
Guided Readers (I will be reading these with students in groups of 4-5 throughout the week)
  • Lesson 12 Red (introduces -ip, -in, and -it words)
  • Lesson 12 Blue (includes short sentences that focus on -ip, in, and -it words)
  • Lesson 12 Green (includes more complex sentences using -ip, -in, and -it words)

Math: Unit 3
  • Unit 3: 
    • 3.10: Explore Attributes: Shape, Size, and Color
      • Objectives: sort by shape, size, and color; generate shape patterns; draw numbers 6 through 10 as 5-groups
      • Vocabulary: rectangle, circle, triangle, square, pattern
      • 3.11: Practice Addition and Subtraction Stories: Park Scene
        • Objectives: establish links between math and the real world; tell addition and subtraction stories; solve story problems; draw numbers 6 through 10 as 5-groups

        • Objectives: make teen numbers using 5-groups; graph to compare capacity
