January 13-17

Here's the breakdown of what we're covering this week.

Reading: Lesson 13
  • Phonemic Awareness: review final and middle sounds in words
  • Letters: Bb, Kk
  • High-Frequency Word: for, me
  • Continue to use graphic organizers
  • Work on formulating questions after reading a story
  • Robust Vocabulary: fading, perhaps, prefer, warn, whirl, property
  • Questions: work on writing questions together and independently 
  • Read What Will the Weather Be Like Today? By Paul Rogers and When A Storm Comes Up by Allan Fowler
  • Centers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Reading Homework
Guided Readers (I will be reading these with students in groups of 4-5 throughout the week) 
  • Lesson 13 Red (focuses on recognizing words that begin with the letter B and K)
  • Lesson 13 Blue (includes short sentences that focus on our new sight words, me and for)
  • Lesson 13 Green (includes more complex sentences with lots of new words that we haven't learned in Kindergarten)
Math: Unit 3
  • Unit 3: 
    • 3.14: Attribute Card Activities
      • Objectives: sort by shape, size, and color; generate shape patterns; use equal and not equal to signs
      • Vocabulary: sort, equal sign, is not equal to sign
    • 3.15: Tens in Teens
      • Objectives: make teen numbers using centimeter cubes; show teen numbers as a group of ten and extra ones; match partners and totals for teen numbers
      • Vocabulary: partners, total
      • 3.16: Graph Drawings: Match and Compare
        • Objectives: use more and fewer to compare quantities; develop spatial concepts

      • 3.17: Partners Through 6: Practice Games
        • Objectives: establish links between math and the real world, tell and solve addition and subtraction stories; show partners for numbers 2 through 6

      • 3.19: Build Teen Numbers with Classroom Objects
        • Objectives: group the ten inside teen numbers; match partners and totals for teen numbers; see and record partners for numbers 2 through 6
