December 2-6

Happy December!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and were able to relax, rest (and maybe do some shopping), and enjoy some solid family time.

We are closing in on day 60 and are more than ready to dive into reading.  This week we will really start focusing on guided reading. Feel free to download the books below as those are the ones we will initially be using during guided reading.

We also have our Unit 2 Math test on Tuesday.  Everyone is ready to show off how hard they have been working! I can't wait to share out the results.

Here's the breakdown.


Reading: Lesson 10 
  • Phonological Awareness: initial sounds in words
  • Letter of the week: Ii
  • High-Frequency Word: come
  • Working on drawing conclusions and making inferences
  • Robust Vocabulary: squabble, mischief, uproar, tend, soggy, wobble
  • Writing lists
  • Working on organization in our writing
  • Reading Down on the Farm  by Merrily Kutner and Farms Feed the World by Sullivan Hill
  • Centers (Tuesday and Wednesday)

Guided Readers
Lesson 10 Red : focuses on letter Ii
Lesson 10 Blue: focuses on basic sentences using new sight word, come
Lesson 10 Green: focuses on more advanced sentences using come

Math: Finishing Unit 2, Starting Unit 3 (Teen Numbers and Tens and Ones) on Wednesday
  • Unit 2 & Unit 3: 
    • 2.24: Shapes in a Train Scene
      • Objectives: identify and count shapes
      • Vocabulary: rectangle, triangle, shape, pattern
      • 3.1: Numbers 1-10 and Math Stories: Park Scene
        • Objectives: establish links between math and the real world; find groups of 1 through 10 and identify partners; tell addition and subtraction stories
