September 30-October 4

I can't believe October is already here and we are closing in on our 20th day of Kindergarten.  Time really does fly when you're having fun!  Take a look at what we'll be covering this week!  A big thank you to everyone for getting the math and reading homework done.  I really appreciate that all of you take the time to work with your child at home.

Reading:

Science:
  • Continuing to observe trees
    • We will observe a specific tree and discuss/draw changes we notice in the fall
    • Continue to discuss parts of a tree and their functions
    • Explore why leaves change color/why trees lose their leaves
    • Tree Breath Experiment: We will observe how much water a group of leaves on a tree "breaths out" during a day.
  • LEGO Engineering
    • We will start our first engineering project and discuss the Engineering Design Process and look at jobs that use this process.
Other News:
  • We are heading to Deardorff Apple Orchard on Tuesday, October 1 from 1-3:15.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather and has comfortable walking shoes. Here's a link the the website: http://www.deardorfforchards.com/ Remember, any parents are more than welcome to meet us there!
  • The homecoming parade is on Friday, October 4.  Meet at Hilltop around 4:45 if you'd like to be in the parade!  Go Shirley Hills!! The parade starts at 5PM
