Can you believe we'd already had three months of Kindergarten?! I swear it was just the first day! December 3rd will be our 57th day! Wow.
As we move into December, we will be starting our third math unit and will dive deeper into the reading process. I've already had a chance to read one-on-one with every student a few times and will continue to do so next week. Every student wants to be challenged and enjoys pushing themselves in order to become better readers. I love it!
Here's the breakdown for the first full week of December.
Reading: Lesson 10
- Phonological Awareness: initial sounds in words
- Letter of the week: Ii
- High-Frequency Word: come
- Working on drawing conclusions and making inferences
- Robust Vocabulary: squabble, mischief, uproar, tend, soggy, wobble
- Writing lists
- Working on organization in our writing
- Reading Down on the Farm by Merrily Kutner and Farms Feed the World by Sullivan Hill
- Centers (Tuesday and Wednesday)
- Unit 2 & 3:
- 2.24: Shapes in a Train Scene
- Objectives: identify and count shapes
- Vocabulary: rectangle, triangle, shape, pattern
- 3.1: Numbers 1-10 and Math Stories: Park Scene
- Objectives: establish links between math and the real world; find groups of 1 through 10 and identify partners; tell addition and subtraction stories
- Vocabulary: subtract, add
- 3.2: Groups of 10
- Objectives: explore the concept of 10-groups within teen numbers; use pennies and dime strips to make teen numbers; order numbers 1-20.
