March 26-30

The Breakdown:

Reading:
  • Letters: V, J
  • High-Frequency Words: are, they
  • Writing dialogue
  • Recognizing main idea
  • Generating questions that relate directly to a story
  • Using graphic organizers in writing and thinking about word choice in our writing
  • Robust Vocabulary:protecting, volunteer, responsible, adore, melancholy, exqusite
  • Reading Everybody Works  By Shelley Rotner and Ken Kreisier and Zara's Hats by Paul Meisel
  • New centers include measuring, counting money, working with the letters of the week (art center and handwriting), writing about the main idea of a story, rhyming, responding to questions through writing, identifying sight words in magazine text, and using the iPads.
Math:
  • Chapter 9 (test on Friday)
    • Using rulers to measure (using inches)
    • Exploring various standard and nonstandard ways of measuring
    • Introducing capacity
    • Comparing weight
    • Reviewing time, money, counting by 5s, 10s, and 2s
Social Studies:
  • Discussing what cities and neighborhoods consist of
  • Building our own city/neighborhoods with blocks (will post pictures)
