March 19-23

I hope you all had a very restful break! What a wonderful week weather wise here in MN!  Hopefully this continues and we'll have a pleasant spring.  I am definitely more than ready to come back and get things rolling in room 107 again-hopefully your Kindergarteners are too! We have plenty of fun work, centers, and projects ahead of us this week.  Here's a sneak peak of some of the things we'll be working on.

Reading:
  • Phonics: building -ed and -en words
  • High-Frequency Words: out, who
  • Reviewing beginning, middle and end sounds in words
  • Reviewing setting
  • Working on writing descriptions of places
  • Using graphic organizers in writing and thinking about word choice in our writing
  • Robust Vocabulary:contrast, meander, tidy, famished, modify, unfortunate, treasure, sturdy, worth, compliment, confer, mingle
  • Reading Pet Show! By Ezra Jack Keats and The Snug Little House by Eils Moorhouse Lewis
  • New centers include measuring, painting settings, listening and responded to stories, counting by 2s and 5s, making mini -ed and -en word books,  writing lists, working on the smartboard, and handwriting.  Wow!
Math:
  • Chapter 9
    • Using rulers to measure (using inches)
    • Exploring various standard and nonstandard ways of measuring
    • Introducing capacity
    • Making our own measurement books
    • Reviewing time, money, counting by 5s, 10s, and 2s
It's good to be back.  Hope everyone has a great week!
