October 3-7

Hello!

Can you believe it's October already? We are already heading into our fourth full week of Kindergarten!  Everyone is started to get their routines down and getting more used to their new Shirley Hills environment.  The K-1 students have been working so hard and the best thing is that they truly seem to enjoy the work they are doing and still come to class everyday with a big smile on their face.  I do not want that to ever end! I will work my hardest to ensure that.  School is serious business, but we have lots of fun too!

Here's a breakdown of our week.

Math:
  • Most lessons will again be on the smart board this week
  • We will look for patterns in nature
  • Continuing to review left and right
  • We have our first math test on Friday-everyone should do great!
Reading:
  • Working on the letter P and N
  • High frequency word: the (reviewing I, my, and a)
  • Robust Vocabulary: feast, gusto, prepare, lonely, remind, preoccupied
  • Skill of the Week: syllable blending and segmentation
  • Reading the story "Bear's Busy Family"
  • Learning about captions and keeping our writing organized
  • Starting our new October journals (September ones will come home this week)
I am so amazed at how far our writing has already come!  We have students who are sounding out words and independently problem solving and figuring out how to write words!  They have a desire and want to continue to improve their writing!  Go Team K!!

Science:
  • Making KWL charts to figure out what we know and want to know regarding the fascinating world of trees
  • Making tree observations and recording our results
  • Determining why trees change color and lose their leaves

Other News:
  • Monday: Character Class at 2:30pm
  • Friday: Homecoming Parade at 5:15 (meet at HT at 4:45 if you want to be in the parade).

Have a great week!

-Mr. T
